Bethesda Confirms Another Round of Bans Following Fallout 76 Dev Room Discovery

Bethesda has confirmed that they have been indeed banning accounts who have accessed the secret dev room for Fallout 76. For these banned players to have their accounts returned to them, they’ve been asked to provide information on how they got in.

For those who don’t know, all previous Fallout games have had a not-so-secret dev room that holds each and every object in the game and that acts as a test space for these items in the game building process.

While this was never really an issue before, for solo games it had no effect on the gameplay; with the inclusion of multiplayer servers, to have access to this room would be game breaking. Cheating. And with Bethesda’s recent crackdowns on the use of third-party apps, it’s no surprise that they’re taking action here.

In an email sent to those who received the ban

Bethesda explains that there is no known way to reach this area without the use of third-party apps not created by them.

“In an effort to ensure the integrity of these characters and accounts, these accounts are being temporarily disabled pending further investigation. Players that have accessed these areas and have had their accounts impacted are encouraged to contact our support team,” Bethesda says in this email.

In response to these breaches, the dev room is said to have been mostly moved to a now unknown and inaccessible point in the game. The areas that do remain, it’s been widely said by those who have entered, that items can’t be interacted with and the NPC, a man named Wooby, is gone now too.

Since the launch of Fallout 76 in November of 2018, Bethesda has had controversy after controversy come into light. From the canvas bag debacle in their Power Armor edition to the Nuka Dark rum controversy, it would seem that Bethesda has stepped on a few toes of their once loyal fans. While players have been growing increasingly frustrated and wary of Bethesda’s shenanigans, it’s still unknown how or even if these situations will affect the company moving forward.
