New Trailer for Ni no Kuni II Teases DLC Release

The newest trailer released for Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom shows glimpses of a new DLC expansion. The Tale of the Timeless Tome is scheduled for release March 19. This is the second of two expansions meant to be included in the season’s pass for the game, the first being the Lair of the Lost Lord.

The Tale of the Timeless Tome trailer is beautiful, with a light-hearted air that is reminiscent of a fairy tale, even introducing an unnamed, creepy rabbit wearing a suit. It takes a turn for the dark as they introduce a new set of enemies for the heroes to battle, known as the Nightmares. They’ve even added a challenge mode, a la games like Legend of Zelda, where the heroes take on wave after wave of enemies.

There are also new combat styles for the heroes to learn. The Wizard’s Companion, a tome introduced in the trailer, adds more magical abilities for the boy king to use in battle. Another method is Evan’s ability to summon creatures known as sprites in a new ability called spritecraft through Martha’s Methods. Those little guys look cute, and while their exact abilities aren’t mentioned in the trailer, they are beneficial in battle in some way.

Each expansion — both the Lair of the Lost King and Tale of the Timeless Tome — are meant to expand the core gameplay of the world and expand gameplay mechanics. Ni no Kuni II was released for both PC and PlayStation. Both the core game and the first of the expansions can be found on Steam, with the free Adventure Pack and the Season Pass.

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant King was released in March of 2018, seven years after the original Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. This newest installment is set hundreds of years following the events of the previous game. In May of 2018, Level 5 announced that Ni no Kuni II had sold almost a million copies, with the entire series having sold 2.8 million copies.
