Apple Arcade: The All-New Subscription Service

Apple unveils its own iteration of an online streaming service....

The Apple Arcade is here, but why? Whenever Google announces a revolutionary form of technology, Apple is never too far behind with an innovative iteration of its own, and vice versa. Recently, Google took us all by surprise, announcing its streaming service entitled Google Stadia. Now, its Apples turn to steal the spotlight with the Apple Arcade.

Announced at an exclusive Apple Special Event, that took place on March 25, 2019, the service is set to go live sometime towards the tail end of 2019. Additionally, Apple Arcade will be available on a range of platforms. Including macOS, iOS, and tvOS.

The event, hosted by Apple Inc. is renowned for bringing to light various product overhauls, new services, and cutting-edge upgrades, often receiving decent media coverage during the event. On that note, the latest press conference didn’t disappoint. More often than not, the contents of which stay hush-hush. And, aired to an unsuspecting audience via Apple’s website. Here are the main points that we know so far about the Apple arcade.

Compatibility seems to be the core focus of the service. Thus, players are likely to be able to maintain in-game progress, across Apple devices. These include Apple TV, Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Preferably, those connected to a matching iCloud account.

Privacy also looks to be paramount to the platform with players able to enjoy games offline, wherever they go. Also, the absence of in-app purchases and pop-up ads will no doubt streamline the experience. After all, accessibility is a crucial component.

According to Apple’s official website, the Apple Arcade will offer “over 100 groundbreaking new games.” Whether these games will roll out on release is a matter of uncertainty. Also, to compete with Google Stadia, which potentially will host exclusives, Apple will want to secure their own set of IPs’ in time for launch. Of course, it’s still early days, so stay tuned for more intel on this subject, in the days and months that follow. As always, we’ll strive to bring you any news as soon as it arrives on the scene.

All in all, gaming has evolved over the years, to incorporate online systems with each generation that passes. Believe it or not, there was a period, now thought of as ancient, when online didn’t exist, esports was a distant dream, and streaming was an alien ambition thought of as improbable. Now, all these concepts are commonplace, and companies are bidding to keep up with the growing trends. Alongside, the proliferation of tech, which seems to be on an upward curve. A pattern which doesn’t look like ceasing any time soon.
