Borderlands 3: All The Essential Intel Thus Far

Here's everything we know So Far About Borderlands 3...

Borderlands 3 is here, hurray! In truth, it has been a long time coming, but the Borderlands series is getting a 3rd installment. Unveiled at the annual PAX East convention, the next game has been spinning around the rumor mill for some time. But finally, faithful fans received the consolidation they’ve been desperately craving.

Of course, as with all big reveals, the gaming world is rarely united, or partisan. Overall though, the reveal generated mass levels of hype. But also, plenty of questions have arisen in events following the worldwide expose. Besides, Borderlands is a series with a whole host of systems and mechanics working in unison.

Therefore, it can be hard to get to grips with all the upcoming developments regarding Borderlands 3. That’s why, we consider it our duty, here at latestgameplay, to breakdown all the essential titbits of info, into one easily digestible list.

What Genre of Game Is Borderlands 3?

In truth, the Borderlands games are hard to categorize, as they borrow from multiple genres. A sort of first-person, looter-shooter, but with other hybrid-like systems at play. Of course, the Borderlands series is, credited as popularizing the now dominant looter-shooter trend. But there’s more happening here than meets the eye.

Aside from elements of exploration, brutal bosses to overcome, a robust story, and of course, all that vibrant color-coded loot, set out in order of rank. As you can see, that’s quite a blend of systems.

Traditionally, the first two Borderlands games have taken place on the planet of Pandora, but this time around, players will venture beyond those boundaries to other worlds.

The same formula applies to Borderlands 3. Four Valiant Vault Hunters, with a thirst for adventure, explore the lands in search of loot and lore, while doing away with any evil that obstructs their path.

When is Borderlands 3 Coming Out?

Despite numerous leaks before the big debut showing, Borderlands 3 now has a release date set in stone. As it stands, the game will hit stores on Sep 13, 2019, gracing all major consoles and PC. Although, loyal subscribers of the Steam platform will have to wait until 2020 to get their eager palms on the game. Mainly, because Epic Games, struck an exclusivity deal with Gearbox. A sale that was secured after the reveal took place.

What to Make Of The Initial Trailer?

I, for one, was impressed with the launch trailer. That said, it seems as though some were not as blown away by the content. A handful of dissenters likened the reveal to more of a spin-off than that of a fully-fledged sequel. However, I would take issue with that notion. But that may be from the perspective of a fan.

What we did get, however, was a diverse range of biomes, a new villainous pair, belonging to a mysterious cult. And, of course, the promise of over 1 billion guns, alongside many returning characters. Yes, some of that is mostly fan service, but for me, the graphics, especially regarding lighting have seen an overhaul, as has some of the detail with character models and the surrounding environments.

What to Make of The Recent Gameplay Footage?

If you quantify the first Borderlands 3 trailer as a letdown, then the quality of follow up is sure the satiate those claims. Not only does the gameplay capture the essence of Borderlands, but it welcomes an array of new systems and mechanics into the fold. For instance, shooting is more dynamic and responsive. All the while, A.I looks to be more intelligent. No more, blindly running into bullets, or lining up as cannon fodder.

Movement is enhanced thanks to the new slide and vault abilities. No doubt, inspired by Titanfall 2’s slick mechanics. And lastly, the skill arcs of playable protagonists Zane and Amara possess plenty of depth in comparison to previous Borderlands games. Like the option to switch out elemental effect types.

In more good news, each of the four vault hunters has access to three authentic abilities, for each tier of the three-way skill tree. And thus, allowing for a diverse range of builds.

All in all, the signs are immensely promising for Borderlands 3, and the hype continues to increase as we draw ever closer to launch. What are your thoughts on the long-awaited sequel? Is the Borderlands franchise, the best looter-shooter series of all time? As always, we value your views.
