The Top 5 Motorcycle Games Ever
|
What are the top 5 motorcycle games to grace the video games industry? In truth, Motorcycle games have never hit the dizzying heights of popularity that car sims have attained. That said, these games continue to thrive, as part of one of the longest-standing sub-niches of its archetypal genre. For many, the cozy interior of a car, with its creature comforts and suitable mod-cons makes the transition from four wheels to two, a burden too big to bare. However, in terms of pure manoeuvrability and blistering speed, there is no equivalent to the Motorcycle.
There are many types of motorcycle racing game, from authentic so-called ‘serious’ simulations to games of the off-road variety that tear-up the dirt track. Some of which adopt an arcade style, while others aim for true realism. In reality, it’s subjective. Albeit, the exhilaration of leaning into chicanes in those shiny leathers, as your center of gravity, lowers, and your knees graze the track, generates a special kind of buzz.
Equally so, does revving hard up a mud mound for big air, only to whack out tricky combo’s mid-flight. Wherever loyalties lie, it’s hard to deny the immense adrenaline rush each version offers. With that in mind, these are the top 5 motorcycle games.
MOTOGP2
First up to the line is MOTOGP2. Namco, the kings of all things arcade, upped the ante with this second entry in the series canon. All thanks to official licensing across the board, authentic bikes and true-to-life tracks, MOTOGP2 is every die-hard fan’s dream. Add to that, super tight handling and satisfyingly slick systems. Then, you have a robust racing sim that mimics the magic of the track — a roaring start to this list of the top 5 Motorcycle games.
Tourist Trophy: The Real Riding Simulator
Typically, one would associate Polyphony with its exemplary racing-sim series Gran Turismo. A fact that makes the developer’s journey into two-wheeled territory all the more remarkable. As with all things Polyphony, the production values are off the charts. All the while, its finely-tuned driving mechanics do a great job of emulating life behind the wheel.
Everything from car physics and animations, right down to the subtle intricacies of vehicle handling looks and feels authentic. In turn, taking to the road, tackling tight corners and revving past rivals issues a rewarding and responsive experience. All in all, Tourist Trophy: The Real Riding Simulator rightfully earns a spot on this list of the top 5 motorcycle games.
SBK 2011: FIM Superbike World Championship
No question, ‘SBK 2011’ is one of the more brutal simulators out there on the track. In spite of its downfalls, namely, in terms of presentation and graphical stature. At least in direct contrast to its peers, ‘SBK 2011’ clinches a place on this list. Solely due to its well-balanced handling. It may not look the prettiest, but its streamlined controls instill a sense of power in the player. All the while, offering a decent challenge in the process. Expect the ride of your life, with this thrilling, high-octane racer. Hence, an apt entry on this list of the top 5 motorcycle games.
Trials Evolution
‘Trials’ makes use of its unusual premise to bring about an exhilarating experience that is both addicting and impossible to put down. The original, an instant arcade classic and one of the most downloaded indie titles on Xbox live, laid the foundations. But Trials evolution built upon its solid structure, refining it in all but every way.
At its core, Trials evolution is a stunt game, that has players complete outlandish obstacle courses under time-trial conditions. What sets this game ahead of the curve, is the innovative level designs, advanced physics, and a joyfully hyperactive gameplay loop. The result is a fun and whacky joyride. And one that never lets up. In short, Trials evolution can do no wrong, falling just shy of the top spot on our list of the top 5 motorcycle games.
Joe Danger
Claiming first place is Joe Danger, the daredevil stunt game with a difference. Besides, it’s not often that you get the animated physics of trials blended with colorful visuals and a park editor that pulls out all the stops. Reminiscent of a Nintendo title in many ways, Joe Danger is a featured-packed and pristinely polished game.
What makes this game more remarkable though, is the fact the team behind this hit-indie classic, was made up of only four people. Take a bow Hello Games. We are not worthy. I’m sure you’ll concur, a decent way to wrap up this list of the top 5 motorcycle games.
That’s it for our list of the top 5 motorcycle games. Based on these excellent entries, Motorcycle titles, without doubt, deserve a place on the sporting podium. Even if they narrowly miss out on a first-place finish. What is your finest two-wheeler of all time? Let us know in the comments. We want to hear your top picks.
